new car coming to malaysia next year
|
|
The Kia Rio name is refreshed in Malaysia with the new Kia Rio model being launched here in Malaysia on 7th September 2005.The Rio transforms from a small stationwagon (sedan available too) to a sporty hatchback. We’ve not really seen much in the sporty hatchback segment below RM80,000 other than the Proton Satria and now Malaysians have an alternative choice. This Kia Rio shares the same platform with the Hyundai Accent.
Internationally, the Kia Rio is actually more well-known as a Sedan, and this hatchback variant that we have here in Malaysia is actually known as the Kia Rio5
The new Rio comes with a 1.4 liter 16 valve DOHC engine making 94ps and a max torque of 124.5Nm. This engine is mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox with eletronic management and adaptive control, which means it will learn your style of driving and change it’s shift patterns accordingly.
Note that the 1.4 engine in the Rio needs a minimum of RON95 grade of petrol, so you can’t use the cheaper RON92 petrol still available at some petrol stations (Esso/Mobil Synergy Regular, Petronas Prima 92, etc) It needs a minimum of RON97 (Esso/Mobile Synergy F1, Petronas Primax, Shell Super/V Power
The new Kia Rio costs RM75,000 and is available in four colours - Black, Orange, Sapphire and Silver.
Reader Mega passed me this shot of the hot new Hyundai Accent SR hatchback that’s due to be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show this month.
I’ve been reading around and have seen people talking about the new hot Hyundai Accent hatch which shares the same platform as the previous Kia Rio which I covered. Here’s some sketches too.
Chevrolet’s distributor in Malaysia Hicomobil does not have an entry level sedan in Malaysia at the moment, unlike Singapore which has the Chevrolet Aveo Sedan. Think of the Aveo with a sedan boot like how the City is a Jazz with a boot.
The Chevrolet Aveo Sedan or Daewoo Gentra was previewed at the Shanghai Auto Show in April. It comes with a 1.5 liter E-TEC II DOHC engine. There are also 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter engines available. Engine offerings are likely to be based on the market it’s in.
The Gentra will replace the Daewoo Kalos, of which the current Chevrolet Aveo in Malaysia is based on
You might be wondering why I files an American marque such as Chevrolet under Koreans. Most of the Chevys here in Malaysia are actually rebadged GM Daewoo cars.
Hicomobile should bring this in and put it head to head with the Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent.
Here are more photos of the 2006/2007 Chevrolet Aveo, including shots of the back.
Now that I’ve looked through Chevy’s car portfolio, the headlamp design is actually similiar to the Chevrolet Cobalt as well as the Toyota Vios. Similiarity to the Vios ceases when looking the back profile. The lights are rather Lancer-ish. Another car which has carried this look is the old Mercedes C-class. I don’t really understand the obsession with the Altezza-style crystal brake lamps. It makes the car look so “Brothers”.
In the USA, the Chevrolet Aveo sedan of the previous incarnation has been the best-selling small-sized car for the 13th straight month in August
Some basic statistics for you guys to get an idea of how big it is. The length of the car is 4310mm, width is 1710mm and height is 1495mm. As a comparison, the Toyota Vios’s length is 4285mm, it’s width is 1695mm and it’s height is 1435mm. So this Chevrolet Aveo Sedan is actually slightly bigger than the Vios in every way - length, width, and height.
Engine options showcased at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show were 1.2 and 1.4 liter models. Apparently the 1.2 liter is very fuel efficient, rated at 6.8 liters of fuel for 100km, and the 1.4 liter model uses 7 liters of fuel for 100km for manual transmissions. For auto transmissioms, Chevrolet says you need to add 0.6 liters to those figures. The car comes with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
Expect 3-door and 5-door hatchback versions of this new Chevrolet Aveo to appear by the end of the year.

myvi convert turbo plus bodykit
|
|
You’ve got a Perodua Myvi. You got fire-hot looks. Even hotter if you have lips, skirtings and nice sports rims slapped on. Now you got to give the car a motor worthy of it’s fire-hot looks!
The premium model Perodua Myvi comes with a 1.3 DVVT DOHC engine designated the K3-VE. This same engine is used in most 1.3 Daihatsus like the Daihatsu YRV, and of course the Toyota Avanza and the Perodua Kembara DVVT
To make the Daihatsu YRV go even faster, Daihatsu added a turbocharger with an intercooler to it’s already powerful K3-VE engine. This makes the engine have one of the highest output and torque for an engine of it’s class. The turbocharger kicks in from low-boost RPMs to provide excellent driveability. The DVVT mechanism continuously adjusts the valve timing according to engine speed.
This makes the K3-VET a formidable performance engine. You can enjoy thrilling power at high-end RPMs and hard weight-pulling torque at low RPM
A K3-VET in a Perodua Myvi will be FAST! The Myvi is only 953kg, and the K3-VET puts out 140ps. That’s some crazy power-to-weight ratio. The downside is YRV half-cuts only come in 4-speed automatic. Manual fanboys will have to find some other alternative.
Engine Specifications
Displacement in cc 1298
Engine Model K3-VET
Max.power (Net), kw(PS)/rpm 140 ps (102.97 kw) / 6400 rpm
Max.torque(Net), N*m(kg*m)/rpm 18.0 kg*m (176.52 N*m) / 3200 rpm

K3-VET
1,298-cc, water-cooled, 4-cylinder, 4-cycle, 16-valve, DOHC, DVVT, turbocharged petrol engine
Adding a turbocharger with intercooler to Daihatsu's powerful 1,300-cc K3-VE engine helped to achieve the highest output and torque of any engine in this displacement class. The turbocharger kicks in from low rpms. The DVVT (Dynamic Variable Valve Timing) system continuously adjusts the valve timing according to driving conditions. These technologies team up to give the K3-VET engine thrilling power at high rpms and hard-working torque at low and mid rpms. The result is a satisfying drive and an easy-to-handle engine at all speeds.
95 kW/6400 rpm
170 Nm/2800 rpm (YRV Turbo)
K3-VE
1,298-cc, water-cooled, 4-cylinder, 4-cycle, 16-valve, DOHC, DVVT petrol engine
This new-generation 1,300-cc engine is the fruit of Daihatsu's efforts to develop ultra-lightweight engines that offer ultra-low fuel consumption and ultra-low emissions. The DVVT (Dynamic Variable Valve Timing) system, which continuously adjusts the valve timing according to driving conditions, helps the K3-VE achieve outstanding intake efficiency and exhaust performance. The result is an engine that combines high output and torque with exceptionally low fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.
75 kW/7000 rpm
120 Nm/4400 rpm (Sirion)
EJ-VE
989-cc, water-cooled, 3-cylinder, 4-cycle, 12-valve, DOHC, DVVT petrol engine
Daihatsu fit the DVVT system to a 1,000-cc 3-cylinder engine distinguished by high torque, low fuel consumption and low emissions. The result is the EJ-VE ム a spirited engine offering even higher torque in the most commonly used rpm range plus lower fuel consumption and cleaner exhaust gas.
43 kW/6000 rpm
91.0 Nm/4000 rpm (Cuore)

Savvy Versus Myvi : R3 Street Shoot-Out at Batu Kawan:
Batu Kawan, 21 August 2005 – It was Proton Savvy versus Perodua Myvi at the Proton Shoot-out time attack held at Batu Kawan, Kedah today. Several thousand spectators were treated to a straight fight between a Proton Savvy and two Perodua Myvi’s at the R3 Street Shoot-out held at Batu Kawan, a little town near Juru, today.
Piloting a stock standard Proton Savvy, Ian Khong thrilled the crowd with his exuberant driving style to take 1st place in the PV (Pre-viagra) class for cars under 1300 cc, his best time of 82.03 seconds narrowly beating Khairol Sham Mohd Razali and Hasrol Hashim in a Myvi 1.3. Another Myvi 1.0 litre driven by Teng Poh Soon clocked a distant best time of 90.65 seconds.
The battle of the mini cars was the talk of the day, as everybody was curious to see which of the two cars would come out on top. In the early part of the day, the Myvi 1.3 of Khairol Sham and Hasrol were the favourites, theirs being a modified car complete with spoilers, a full roll-over cage, and with the interior all stripped down for the competition. It also had semi-clicks, and it looked and sounded like there had been some work done to the engine and suspension.
In contrast, the Savvy was a ‘borrowed’ car, and other than an alignment ‘set-up’ done on Ian’s alignment machine, all the parts and specifications were stock, including the tyres. Ian confessed later that he removed the headrests from the seats, and took out the spare tyre and jack, but that was all that was done to the car. “We even kept the air-conditioner belt on, because I don’t fancy driving all the way up from Petaling Jaya and back without it,” said Ian.
Well, we certainly look forward to seeing more of both the Myvi and Savvy in action in future events.
Elsewhere in the same event, Ivan Khong had a field day, clocking a fastest time of 74.99 seconds to beat 8 other competitors in his class to win the ‘Rocco’ class for cars. Second place in this class went to his brother, Ian, who clocked 75.47 seconds in the same car, a difference of 0.48 seconds. Some friendly sibling rivalry was evident, as the brothers went at it hammer and thongs, trying to outdo each other.
In the ‘Hung’ Class for cars up to 1.6 litres, Ho Wai Kok in his trusty Wira 1.6 narrowly beat Galen Lai in a Honda civic by 0.16 seconds to win the class. Third place in the class went to the ever-smiling Ricky Teoh who drove a beautifully appointed Starlet KP61.
Ricky’s brother, Mickey Teoh, fondly known as ‘Tree Hugger’ (of KKS Autocross fame), drove superbly to clinch third place behind, the Khong brothers for the Rocco Class.
The 'North Pole' class for sports cars was won by Benedict Lim, who clocked a best time of 77.58 seconds in his Toyota MR2
In the ‘Hung’ Class for cars from 1601 to 1900cc, Hammond Lai again took the honours with a best time of 75.63 seconds.
The best team prize went to the ‘All Stars’ Team, made up of Ivan Khong, Ian Khong, and W.K. Ho. They beat Team Furtive by 4 seconds in total penalty time. In the team championships, Team All Stars leads with two more rounds to go..

Another eye-opener at the recent R3 Street Shootout at Batu Kawan, Penang. Tengku Djan participated in the Drift session and emerged champion in a Proton Waja.
How can a Waja drift? The Waja is a FF car right? This R3 Proton Waja has been specially modified with a Nissan SR20DET engine putting power to the rear wheels
Djan’s Proton Waja RWD beat first runner-up Ser Ming Hui’s Nissan Cefiro by 40 points. I heard the SR20DET in the Waja was putting out over 300 horsepower
Results for the drift event:
Points Driver Ride
1 260 Tengku Djan Proton Waja RWD
2 220 Ser Ming Hui Nissan Cefiro
3 150 Lim Zee King Nissan 180SX

new gen2 1.3 and new satria
|

These are shots of the Satria Replacement Models being filled up at an ESSO petrol station. This could have been a good opportunity for anyone to grab as many spy shots are they could because the cars had to be stationary for their fuel tanks to be refilled.
There were two units of the Satria Replacement Model refilling their tanks. According to blog reader comments on my previous entries, it looks like road tests are becoming more and more frequent and easy to spot. The car should be ready to launch in a while but I’ve heard that Proton is pushing it to Chinese New Year intentionally to take advantage of a sales spike.
Nice side profile, although a little tall. There are discs brakes front and back. I think what we’ve feared most is going to come true. Those dodgy bling bling rims are going to come stock with the car. Honestly Proton, I’d recommend you to go for a design like the Advanti Racing rims that Race Rally Research are using on their R3 cars. The ride height looks pretty low.
If you look inside the car properly, you can see that the door panel for the left-hand door is in cream, as well as the top of the dashboard in front of the car. So I think it’s safe to assume the interior of the car will have light colours like cream as the dominant look.
Too bad there are no shots of the interior. I think we’ve seen almost every angle of the car already except the interior. A few people have commented on the previous spyshot posts that the interior is identical to the Gen2’s, like the way the Satria’s interior is the same as the Wira’s and Putra’s. That would make it a bit boring wouldn’t it?
There is no third brake light on the bumper, but those are reflectors. The rear bumper design accomodates a groove for the exhaust pipe to come out through. The spoiler is something like the Satria GTi design. Overall, very nice except for the rims which I think are totally off.
The Proton Gen2 finally comes with a 1.3 engine despite it being available overseas in markets such as the UK for some time. With the introduction, Proton introduces a new colour for the Gen2 - WHITE! I have to admit white looks hot on the Gen2.

memang teguh!..
I’m not sure how this happened or what it hit… whether it was a real accident or some crash test. Looks really bad. Like something hit it really bad on the right side of the car. Maybe some tall SUV or lorry hit it on the right and the Savvy went underneath it.
Update: Wingz says maybe nothing hit him and the driver just lost control of the car… flipped over like a turtle and finally the car stopped when it hit something.
Thanks to Vincent for the photos.
If you look properly, the passanger cabin is not really twisted by that much. So if you are in a Savvy and you get into this kind of terrible accident you would probably still be able to walk out safely.
